About

Ian Davidson is the Founder and CEO of Signol Labs, a firm focused on building the skills intelligence layer for the workforce. He is also a member of the Board of Directors for HR Open Standards and the author of Field Notes, where he writes about the evolving workforce data ecosystem.

Ian’s work sits at the intersection of learning, work, and the systems that connect them. Over time, he has focused on how data, signals, and infrastructure shape the way individuals are recognized, how employers make decisions, and how opportunity moves through the workforce.

Prior to founding Signol Labs, Ian was Chief Growth Officer of SmartResume by iDatafy, a Learning and Employment Record resume and talent marketplace platform. There, he helped bring verifiable credentials into the hiring process and authored the annual LER Ecosystem Report, which explored how infrastructure is developing between learning and work.

Earlier in his career, Ian served as Vice President of Business Development at ZipRecruiter, where he led job seeker acquisition, built partnerships across job boards and applicant tracking systems, and helped drive the first digital credential integration within a major job marketplace.

Across more than twenty years, his work has centered on digital marketplaces, ecosystem development, strategic partnerships, and product strategy.

What ties it together is a consistent focus on how systems can better understand and respond to people.

That perspective continues to shape how he approaches the work at Signol Labs today.

He lives in Rogers, Arkansas with his wife and two children.

Observations on how learning, work, and opportunity are evolving.

The workforce is changing, but not always in obvious ways. In Field Notes, we share what we’re seeing from inside that shift. Where systems are breaking down, where new approaches are emerging, and what it will take to build something better.
